Who We Are

A practice built on careful judgement, not volume.

Threshold Advocates was established with a clear purpose — to provide legal services that respect the seriousness of each client's matter and the pace at which they need to move.

Our Story

Founded on considered practice.

Threshold Advocates began in Damansara Heights with a straightforward premise: that clients dealing with legal matters — whether a startup navigating its first shareholder agreement or a consumer seeking redress — deserve a measured, attentive response rather than a generic one.

The firm's name reflects the belief that many legal engagements represent a threshold — a point of decision where the quality of advice can substantially shape what comes next. We take that responsibility with appropriate weight.

Our practice concentrates on three areas where legal requirements intersect with commercial realities in Malaysia: technology and startup law, consumer protection under the Consumer Protection Act 1999, and franchise compliance under the Franchise Act 1998. We work with both businesses and individuals within these domains.

Our Mission

To give each matter the attention it deserves.

We operate with a limited number of active matters at any time, which means we can give each engagement thorough consideration. Clients come to us for structured, documented legal work — not hurried opinions.

Precision

Legal documents and advice that say exactly what they need to say.

Clarity

We explain legal positions in language that is useful to you.

Integrity

Honest assessments, even when the picture is not straightforward.

Proportion

Legal support scaled to the nature and scope of your matter.

The People

The practitioners behind your matter.

Professional Standards

How we conduct our practice.

Bar Membership

All practising members are admitted to the Malaysian Bar under the Legal Profession Act 1976 and maintain active annual practising certificates.

Client Confidentiality

All matters are handled under strict legal professional privilege. Client information is retained securely and disclosed only as required by law or with your consent.

Engagement Letters

Each engagement begins with a clear written scope of work and fee estimate. Changes in scope are documented before any additional work proceeds.

Bar Council Ethics

We operate in accordance with the Legal Profession (Practice and Etiquette) Rules 1978 and the Bar Council's professional conduct standards.

Professional Indemnity

Threshold Advocates maintains professional indemnity coverage as required by the Bar Council, providing appropriate protection in all client engagements.

Informed Advice

We ensure clients have sufficient understanding of their legal position before decisions are made — including where alternatives exist or where risk cannot be fully mitigated.

Our Expertise

Legal knowledge applied to Malaysian commercial realities.

Threshold Advocates focuses on areas of Malaysian law where regulatory requirements and commercial operations converge. The Consumer Protection Act 1999, Franchise Act 1998, and Companies Act 2016 each impose specific obligations on businesses, and understanding them in practical terms — not just their literal text — is what we bring to each engagement.

For technology companies, this means working through the specifics of IP ownership, data handling, and terms of service in ways that hold up when challenged. For franchise arrangements, it means understanding what the Registrar of Franchises requires, and what disclosure documents need to actually communicate to prospective franchisees.

Based in Damansara Heights, we are accessible to clients across the Klang Valley and work with clients elsewhere in Malaysia on documentation-focused matters. We approach each engagement with the same level of care regardless of the size of the matter.
